A highway speed camera that regularly causes five miles of traffic congestion is set to be removed within the next few months.
How dare they remove this camera! Shouldn't people stick to the speed limit all the time? It is the law. If they don't they end up in gridlock! What is this was used as an excuse every where!
Located on the M4 highway near junction 41 at Port Tablot, the device forces motorists to brake hard to avoid being mailed a citation for driving just a little over 50 MPH. "Being so close to a junction it causes a lot of congestion where there is not a history of accidents," Assembly Member Alun Cairns told the BBC. "Westbound congestion of a Friday evening regularly tails back in excess of five miles because people brake through instinct on observing the camera even when they are traveling within the speed limit."The Welsh Assembly Government will not consider raising the speed limit or removing nearby speed cameras.Source: Camera scrapped to cut tailbacks (BBC News (UK), 12/14/2006)
